Perseverance Rover’s Descent and Touchdown on Mars (Official NASA Video)

Publicēšanas datums 22 feb 2021
NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.

The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

  • You have send covid in mars wow aliens are in trouble now

  • USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

  • What would happen if transported earth soil to Mars?

  • NASA YOU DID IT I CAN'T BELIEVE IT

  • Aliens watching us rn: WTF!! I thought this was the interstellar movie

  • Congratulations on the successful and beautiful landing.

  • What happened after landing? Why didn’t the other cameras stay on?

  • *Why is the comment section turned off on the new space walk video, along with any other video claiming to be video from space or mars?*

  • Algum brasileiro?

  • Imagine the Martians looking up and seeing the flying saucer shaped heatshield crashing into their equivalent of Roswell.

  • Lady Voice of Indian scientist Swathi Mohan...Bravo!!!! Perfect 👍👍👍

  • Congratulations 1st of all.... What technique did you used for releasing the ropes from lander once rover touch the surface of the Mars? Thank you...

    • The bridles and electrical umbilical were cut by blades driven by a pyrotechnic charges. The rover commanded the pyros once it detected it was on the surface.

  • Awesome!

  • Amazing

  • The Martian High command respectfully requests that human robot landers be withdrawn to avoid the Martian space laser...now that would be finding life!

  • This is becoming so common that I'm not even surprised what NASA and perseverance did. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?🤔

    • @Hazel Delainy maybe I'm just not surprised when machines do it but just waiting till the 1st humans get to mars

    • It really isn't common - this is NASA's first Mars rover since Curiosity in 2012. Only roughly 40% of Mars missions are successful.

  • Perseverance. Perseverance. Perseverance. Perseverance. A word that made history.

    • Was für sensationelle Lüge

  • NASA - Atacama Desert

    • I'm pretty sure the Atcatma desert isn't red with a 750 mile wide crater

  • Wait a minute... Were they controlling or guiding the landing remotely?

    • Not at all. it has to do it all by itself.

    • No. At the time of EDL the one way light travel time was 11 minutes and 22 seconds. The delay makes any real-time control impossible. The landing was completely autonomous, controlled by the rover computer. Mission Controllers had basic telemetry from the rover to monitor the EDL, but there was nothing they could do to affect the outcome.

  • Marvin the martian doesnt like his planet being invaded..makes him angry

  • That’s false. I want to heart sound

  • emocionante, felicidades!

  • YES, YEEEES, YEEEEEEEEEEES! IT IS AMAZING!!!

  • 140 million miles in 7 months? 😂 20 000 000 miles per month 645 161 miles per day 26 882 per hour 448 miles per minute 7,5 miles per second You dumb or just ignorant?

    • Yeah, it's fast.

    • Seems right to me. Are you dumb, or just ignorant? Let's try both.

    • @ma jord Am I wrong?

    • @Atlas Of course.

    • That's what the hundreds of thousands of pounds of propellant are for.

  • Thank you all.

  • Lol....

  • Hi NASA! Congratulations first of all! I would like to know why you aren‘t uploading new videos from the surface? It worked so well the first time! We would love to see the dusty wind blowing over the rocks of Mars.

  • Why are you not producing videos of Mars, have you found aliens

  • Greatest lies, nasa, pinocchio world, Disney's magic moment

  • Congratulation best lies!!! The Earth is FLAT!!!!

    • please go back to school

    • you were here a solid 20 minutes please do something more productive lol

  • very gooood

  • What a time to be alive..they sent a robot to mars and we are struggling with a f..virus here on earth..what a shame..for me this thing is useless..we should try to do things better here on earth not on other planet..but it seems like nobody cares..all these persons fascinated about this video..forgetting about how life really is here on earth..it will take them at least more then 100 years to put a human step on mars..and thats it..like we did on the moon..when i was young i thought in 2020 we will be already doing that..such a slow process..so sad about human kind..its obvious sooner or later these dumb fu.. will destroy the earth with their nukes, poison and other sh..a big step for humanity will mean stop killing each other, not going on mars

  • The Erth is Flat!!!

  • Was für sensationelle Lüge

    • I did not know there were european flat earthers. Europe is perceived to be the most developed continent in the world, but I guess you lot are just as dumb as the rest of us.

  • So eine kacke,alles verlogen

  • How will it come back

    • @ntm hmt - Perseverance has a number of sample tubes in which some specimens will be stored. These tubes will be left on the surface with the idea that some future mission will collect them and return them to Earth. There is no way for the rover itself to come back.

    • @Steve Adams Isn't it expected to bring rock samples? I've heard such comments

    • It is not meant to come back. It relays all its collected data via radio back to Earth.

  • 6.3k flat earthers watched this video

  • The awesome error etiologically rob because viscose early bore below a new schedule. possible, prickly cough

  • And I have subscribed to nasa and mark rober

  • Hi I am ten and this is cool

  • The sky crane is amazing.

  • NOTE : WE ARE MISSING SOME CHAPTERS FROM HUMAN STORY 😱😶

  • have they find watney ?

  • wall-e

  • all fun and games till a martian runs past.

  • Idc💀

  • This better be the real footage for. February of 2021

  • Where’s the one from 2021

  • This is beautiful

  • Yeah Mr white! Yeah Science!

  • Interesting !

  • why does the video cut just before the landing? it was kind of disappointing not seeing it land after the descent and since the title says touchdown.

    • @Atlas - You are correct. Once the rover detects wheels down, it commands the bridles and the umbilical to be cut. That severs the camera feed from the sky crane.

    • my guess is that the sky crane passes the video to the rover by cable. Once you cut the cable, you cut the video feed. That's my guess tho, could be something else entirely

  • The comments on kamala astronaut interview are turned off

  • just looks like a James Cameron movie ... but true !

  • incredible video. cant wait for the next time. it's going to keep getting better. :)

  • haters says "it's real"

    • haters of what?

  • one big leap for humankind

  • Скоро вашей Америке - кирдык.

  • There is no air.. why parasuit??

    • @Knight Watchman Water is blue because it reflects the sky's blue, not the other way around.

    • @Релёкс84 THANK YOU!

    • @Knight Watchman The sky isn't blue because of the oceans. It is blue because of Raleigh scattering, which happens in any gas. Though lowers parts of Mars' atmosphere are rich in red dust which darkens and reddens the naturally blue sky.

    • @Ccat s Hmmm. Yeah I see more black after the chute deploys but that could be due to the shade of the chute. At first it appears blue especially in the 30% speed view. Stop the video at 0:13 to see what I mean.

    • There still is an atmosphere even if it is thinner than earth's, ergo a parachute is still helpful

  • Alhamdullah

  • Marsa par be gravety hai yani

  • This has to be the coolest thing i have ever seen in my life, though i am still confused on whether mr beast burger launch was cooler or not

  • video: doesnt shows the horizon of mars flat earthers: *time to be ignorant*

  • After SpaceX's achievement by landing those boosters at the same time, now NASA acomplished their new achievement. Space is my favorite.

  • The Advanced Technology: HD Quality from the footage of Perseverance Rover landing on different planet, amazing achievement.

  • Why are you wasting your time for another planet...people are already destroying the existing beautiful planet...no other planet is beautiful than earth..save earth..it's enough for us..❤️❤️

  • Wow absolutely amazing, actual high quality videos of the landing!

  • Like the moon touchdown lol 😂

    • Ummm, not really. Much more control on this one, and way more efficient.

  • Great!

  • Im here because of MKBHD..

  • Pagliacci massonici!

  • Entertaining.....and believable to....

  • Why are the flatearthers and the nonbelievers here again??

    • If the flatearthers and the nonbelievers had dirt on the Clintons, they'd be gone in a heartbeat.

    • They're like a rash - irritating, and hard to get rid of.

  • 👍👏👏👏👏🌹

  • Now where is footage of the long legged beasties in 4K l

  • Congratulations! NASA

  • math and nasa is racist. we need to cut all nasa funding to pay for black babies. you all need to be less white

  • Excellent of Mankine.

  • WOW.AMAZING

  • WHERE IS THE PERCEVIERENCE DATA?????? STOP YOUR LIES AND COME CLEAN....

  • Omg yay we did it!

  • NO BIG DEAL NASA LAND THE LAST ROVER ON MARS THESE PEOPOLE ARE DUMB THE OLD ROVOR ON MARS GOT BURIED BY SAND AND NOW WAIT FOR THE DUST STORM YOU NASA ARE DOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Why they cant make Drone Tower that metal Stick will Last Longer??

    • All the other rovers are just fine, opportunity and spirit died due to their solar panels failing, do did sojourner. Curiosity is perfectly fine too, and they can’t be buried by sand, it’s very unlikely on mars

  • ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Wow. good luck nasa

  • 🇱🇰👍👋👋👋👋👌👍

  • EPIC!, now where Matt Damon at?

  • ayos! 👏

  • ดีเยี่ยม

  • YAY YAY THEY LANDED

  • I hope Perseverance meets Curiosity.

  • And now , we have flat Mars.

  • I get those thoughts in my head and it scares me sooo much.

  • Give back our tax money. This is all a bunch of horse 💩💩

    • you'd be so much richer if you'd ask the army to pay you back instead. I guess you aren't a very sly capitalist now, are you?

    • @John van der v. you sound 12 go do the dishes or something my guy

    • @SP nasa doesn't need 50 billion for science that's worth max 5 million. And I bet you didn't work an hour in your sad life, so shhhhh 🤫

    • @John van der v. I didn’t like my own comment, I will now just for you. And again you won’t get it back, ever. You should be grateful for that.

    • @John van der v. based off of your comments I bet you aren't even old enough to pay taxes

  • Dislikes are aliens there mad were trespassing

  • My brother love NASA and cosmonautic🚀

  • Cool 😎

  • Imagine a world where we prioritized space exploration. I wish this was an everyday event. What an amazing endeavor.

    • @Mike Nguyen The US puts most of their funding into their military - prioritising ending world hunger and space exploration are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately, neither are prioritised because we live in a silly world.

    • Imagine a world where we prioritized ending world hunger !! Not knocking what is an amazing feat by JPL and NASA - just a perspective about priorities.

  • "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

    • 1:46 - No, he said 'Hope you have salad'

  • This has got to be one of the coolest videos humanity has ever made
